Best Alzheimer’s Gift Guide
Choosing the perfect gift for someone is hard. It gets even harder when you add in special challenges and circumstances. Let’s face it dementia changes people and things they once loved aren’t always practical or useful to them anymore.
So I’ve created my Best Alzheimer’s Gift Guide. I go to several memory care units every week and these are the items that I see getting used most frequently and enjoyed by my dementia patients. I hope you find this guide helpful.

1. Alzheimer’s Clock
These large print digital clocks make keeping up with the time and date some much easier for those with declining short-term memory or even more severe memory issues, and also those with vision impairments. Many of my patients have these clocks and they are lifesavers for both the patients and the caregivers. Being able to keep up with the date and the time often relieves anxiety for the patients and cuts down preoccupation with time.

2. Fidget Blankets
These fidget blankets are perfect for busy hands. These repetitive fine motor exercises are great.
3. Puzzles and Games
Games provide exercise for the memory are great for mental workouts and keeping one occupied. Look for simple games and puzzles with large pieces, usually 36 pieces or less.
4. Life-Like Companion Pets
I’ll admit I thought these were a little creepy at first, but these are commonplace in most memory care units. Now, I understand why, they are wonderful companions for seniors with dementia.
5. Life-Like Dolls
Just like the pets, these realistic-looking dolls can be wonderful at occupying and comforting seniors with dementia, especially women.
6. Photos
I’ve found photographs to be a get source of pride for my dementia patients. They love to show me their families and sharing with me their history. These digital frames are great for sharing family photos, both new and old.
7. Music
I’m sure I don’t need to explain to you all the wonderful benefits of music therapy.
8. Non-Slip Slippers
These comfy slippers have non-slip bottoms and are great for those with arthritic feet or are prone to feet swelling.

10. Big Button Universal Easy Remote
These easy to use remotes take the stress and frustration out of seniors watching television.
